Bikes, bites, booze, books, buildings, Burnley FC
…and alliteration
Thank you for visiting my website.
Motorbikes, good food & wine, photography, literature, architecture and football make for unlikely bedfellows. This website is a reflection of my interest in all of the above, combining them where possible.
Many of the travel articles here have first appeared in the BMW Motorcycle Owners Club journal and were/are written for pleasure and my recollection. Others have been to support charities I’ve been involved with.
As I was born a mile from Turf Moor in 1963, Burnley Football Club are the team I follow. I can’t pretend to have been particularly devout over the years but after joining the ‘London Clarets’ a few years ago, Phil Whalley - editor of the excellent house magazine ‘Something to Write Home About’ - asked me to contribute. I quickly ran out of things to say about football so appointed myself their occasional restaurant & media critic.
People have made mostly kind comments about these articles over the years which is why I’ve put them together in one place. Photographs, unless credited, are my work also.
I’m planning a five-month odyssey around the USA in 2024 so thought I should “put my affairs in order” as I plan to document this as a blog. Although I hate the word, it’s probably the best way to do this. Writing this stuff down means I can go back to all the places I’ve been fortunate to go - instantly and at will - so I want to make sure I capture this long-held ambition as best I can.
I have contributed to various trade publications over the years in a professional capacity as CEO of a fintech company I founded in 2003. This was acquired by a UK public company in 2020 where I now work full-time. I’ve included a couple of these articles as examples of a slightly more rigorous approach to the subject in hand and evidence that I can take a brief.
